Pantone Colours Explained

Pantone Matching System Colours, also knows as PMS Colours, are made up of a solid ink used for printing on paper.

There are 2,139 colours to choose from in the Pantone Colour Bridge Books.

PANTONE vs CMYK

CMYK uses four plates (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) to print out the desired colour.

This colour always has the chance of coming out slightly different each time it prints, depending on the calibration of the printer.

Pantone do not use the four plate system. It is a pure, singular ink made for that specific colour.

You will see large organisations use PMS Colours to ensure their printing material stays consistent in colour after numerous amounts of print runs.

FAMOUS PANTONES

“You’re nobody until you’ve purchased your own custom colour”

Yes, that’s right. Some of the biggest name brands have hired Pantone to create their own custom colours.
